March update from Jamie’s Farm Skipton

Wonderful Visits and Spring Weather

March brought us some lovely weather and equally enjoyable visits from Meadow Bank Community School, Co-op Academy Grange, Hollingwood Primary School, and Co-op Academy Princeville. It was a pleasure to see the young people engaging with farm life.

Spring Growth and New Lambs

With Spring’s arrival, the farm is showing signs of new life. Our garden, in particular, has undergone a transformation thanks to the efforts of our volunteers. We’ve also welcomed a number of lambs in recent weeks, and they are now enjoying the sunshine in the fields.

Acknowledging Volunteer Contributions

We’ve been fortunate to have Benjy join us as a volunteer for the past half-term, and we will miss his presence. He has integrated into our team, bringing enthusiasm and energy to various tasks – from mucking out lambing pens and assisting in the kitchen to rounding up chickens. He has been a valuable asset.

Ollie, another of our volunteers, has been working with visiting groups to build bat boxes. These boxes will be installed in our new barn, providing a safe haven for local Pipistrelle bats. Ollie was impressed by the focus and determination displayed by the young people, especially considering many of them were using tools for the first time.

Developing Skills and Supporting Wildlife

The bat box project has been a good example of how our young visitors learn new skills while contributing to the farm’s biodiversity. It’s rewarding to see them gain confidence.

Thank you for your continued support, which allows us to create these enriching experiences for young people and nurture the natural environment of our farm.
