July flew by here in Bath! We were thrilled to welcome Reach Academy’s entire Year 6 group. The farm was buzzing with enthusiastic young people eager to embrace new experiences and gain independence ahead of Year 7. Their enthusiasm, kindness, and hard work throughout the week were truly impressive.
With the summer break upon us, we’re excited to welcome a wider range of young people, offering them a different setting for them to to relax during the holidays. We enjoyed a week filled with day visits, including a new partnership with Saxon Group RDA, who support children and adults with disabilities through horse-related activities. It was heart-warming to see everyone enjoy the farm, and we look forward to future collaborations with this fantastic organisation.
Families from our established partner, Bath & Northeast Somerset local authority(B&NES), also enjoyed a day out at the farm. It’s a privilege to watch young people and adults alike relax and settle into the farm environment. Regular visits allow us to see familiar faces return and witness the strengthening of family bonds. We’re also delighted to welcome back Julian House, a wonderful charity supporting individuals overcoming barriers and challenges from within the local area. Collaborating with local charities enriches our work and community impact.
In London, we revisited Kensington Aldridge Academy and Lampton School Academy to celebrate the students’ achievements. Our confident Bantam chicks joined us at the school, generating excitement and helping students reconnect with their farm experiences. As the academic year ends, our team reflected on our achievements and future plans during our Away Days, focusing on inspiring young people beyond the farm to maintain their progress. Supporting our young people and visiting staff is always at the forefront of our conversations and we look forward to starting a new academic year, continuing to focus on how to inspire young people beyond the farm to maintain the progress they achieved.
On the farm, we are currently drenching and weaning lambs, and protecting our ewes from fly strike. Our three Jersey cows are providing us with delicious milk, and it’s a joy to see them in the field with their calves. Our Away Days also allowed us to share farming knowledge, particularly about regenerative farming, benefiting our soil, animals, and biodiversity.
Despite lots of rain earlier in the month, it has helped our garden flourish. We’re enjoying home-grown produce including carrots, courgettes, tomatoes, salads, cucumbers, blueberries, and raspberries. Our garden volunteers, Julie, Lucy, Jane, and Catherine, have been invaluable, and we thank them for their hard work.
We’re excited to announce our Bath Farm Open Day on Saturday the 7th September, from 11am to 3pm. We hope to see many of you there to enjoy tasty food, drinks, apple pressing, tractor rides, and more! Learn more and register here.
