April update from Jamie’s Farm Monmouth

Spring has brought sunshine, fresh growth, and plenty of meaningful moments here at Jamie’s Farm Monmouth. We’ve been busy welcoming young people to the farm, visiting our partner schools, and celebrating the fruits of everyone’s hard work , from new life in the lambing shed to exciting new projects beyond the farm gates.

Welcoming both new and old friends

This month, we had the joy of welcoming back old friends from Barnsley College, who arrived in time to dive into lambing season. Blessed with glorious weather, they got stuck into some hard graft and left with the rewards of unforgettable experiences.

We also hosted young people from London with care experience, who brought brilliant energy and made lasting memories during their time on the farm. Meanwhile, our trusted partners at Bertha Earth returned with a London-based group for a week rich in work, meditation, and empowering conversations. It’s always inspiring to see these young people connect so deeply with the farm and each other.

Hitting the road: visits to Leeds, Aston and Accrington

Beyond Bath, our team has been on the move! In Leeds, we visited Coop Academy Woodlands, where young people, parents, and Tom all got stuck in making a healthy fruit salad, which we shared at a big and joyful group breakfast.

In Aston, with new partners at Aston Academy, we relived favourite memories from the farm through games and storytelling, a wonderful way to keep the Jamie’s Farm spirit alive.

Down in Accrington, Tom joined Jordan, Ebony, and an inspiring group of young people for a tour of their school, and a look at their incredible new Legacy project. Having discovered an abandoned allotment, they’ve set about transforming it into a vibrant, productive garden space. Fittingly, they’ve named it The Skirrid, after the mountain we climb during our week in Monmouth. Their vision is big: involving the wider community in food growing and sustainability. It’s a shining example of creativity, teamwork, and youth-led action, and we can’t wait to see it flourish.

Lambing season comes to a close

We are proud to share that lambing has now finished for the year! Thanks to some pleasant spring weather and the tireless efforts of James, our farmer, it’s been a smooth and hugely rewarding season. Sharing this experience with so many young people, many for the first time, has been incredibly special, creating memories we know they’ll carry with them.

New Cabins: a huge thank you

We’re excited to share that our new cabins are now complete!

The all-new Farmers’ Cabins, which are situate close to our farm along the Offa’s Dyke pathway, provide incredible views of the beautiful Monmouth countryside. All proceeds from guest stays go directly to support the work of the Jamie’s Farm programme at Monmouth.

Visiting groups played a vital role in helping bring this project to life, and they look absolutely amazing. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who lent a hand, your hard work has helped create a beautiful, welcoming space that will benefit countless young people in the years to come.

A special thank you to Sebastian, whose carpentry and coordination made this project possible. We will miss having him at the farm!
