April update from Jamie’s Farm Lewes

We’ve been busy this month, welcoming old friends, new visitors and lots of new life to the farm!

At the start of April, we welcomed our friends from Big Leaf back to the farm for the launch of their Young Leaders programme. It was wonderful to see some familiar faces and some new ones too, as the young people involved embarked on their leadership journey and got lots done out on the farm too.

Following the Easter break, we welcomed back Hillingdon Virtual School, for a wonderful week of connection, reflection and fun. There were several Jamie’s Farm veterans as part of the group, so it was lovely to see them slot straight in to our way of working.

We always really enjoy our partnership with our friends at Bertha Earth, and we welcomed the first of three visits this year. Graveney School bought us 15 intrepid young people who wholeheartedly embraced the challenges of life on the farm with enthusiasm, hard work and lots of singing!

To round off the month, we have welcomed our regular partners at Heathside School back to the farm. It’s been wonderful to see the young people really buy into the experience and to see how much they are getting from time away the day-to-day of school life.

A few of our team recently visited our friends at Oasis Academy Shirley Park to spend some time working in their garden, alongside some previous young visitors. It’s brilliant to be able to support growing projects within schools, as well as our own farm, and great to see the continued love for Jamie’s Farm among young people who have visited.

We’re almost done with lambing on the farm, just in time for the cows to start calving! The farm is now thankfully a little drier underfoot, and more and more of our animals are now out in the fields, which is wonderful to see. In particular, we’re excited to have both pigs and goats enjoying one another’s company in the woods. They love having the opportunity to explore and make mischief… they’re also pretty good at hiding.

We’ve welcomed our new Visit Coordinator, Felix, to the team this month, He’s already getting stuck in and learning the ropes, making a great contribution to our team, to the farm and to the visiting young people. We feel very lucky to have him.

Please do come along to our farm Open Day on Saturday 18 May, 11am – 3pm. We’re looking forward to showing off our beautiful farm and serving delicious food, drink and ice-cream! You can register here.
