January update from Jamie’s Farm Monmouth

January at Jamie’s Farm Monmouth

We’ve had an incredible start to the year, welcoming two fantastic new partner schools, Farnborough Spencer Academy and Aston Academy. Both groups brought hardworking young people who contributed enthusiastically to life on the farm.

School visits

Farnborough’s visit was blessed with stunning weather, and unforgettable memories were made during breath-taking walks, particularly up the Skirrid. Aston Academy faced more unpleasant conditions but showed resilience, helping enormously with farm tasks. During both visits, the Welcome Barn buzzed with energy and joy at mealtimes!

Before these visits, we also hosted the ever-cheerful young farmers from Overmonnow Primary for a day visit. Their enthusiasm and good work always brighten our days.

Follow-up connections

Bronny reconnected with our hardworking November visitors from Priesthorpe Academy in a special way. Instead of meeting at their school, she joined them at our sister farm in Skipton, Yorkshire, where they helped acclimatise sheep from the hills to the lambing shed, enjoyed a hike, and watched a film of their time at Monmouth. It was a meaningful way to celebrate their progress and hard work.

Farm updates

We’re thrilled to announce over 100 lambs are on their way following a successful scan day. In other farm news, we said goodbye to our pigs, who have retired to sunny Kent, and our Lowline stock, which has moved to pastures new. Meanwhile, we’ve welcomed 12 adorable calves that young people have loved bottle-feeding, and 20 new chickens to help keep us self-sufficient in eggs (we go through a lot!).

Thank you for your ongoing support—it’s shaping up to be another memorable year at Jamie’s Farm Monmouth!
