Winter update from Jamie’s Farm Lewes

Over the last few weeks, we’ve had the privilege of welcoming several incredible groups to the farm. From reconnecting with longstanding partners to introducing new visitors to farm life, each group brought their own energy, enthusiasm, and determination, leaving us with lasting memories.

A Warm Welcome for All

Our longstanding partners from Harris Academy Clapham brought a lively, inquisitive group that embraced the full farm experience. They especially enjoyed shared mealtimes, woodland walks in the dark, and a variety of farm jobs that helped them build confidence and form meaningful friendships.

The young people from Bohunt Liphook showed extraordinary care for our animals, particularly an injured pig who thrived under their attention. The group benefited greatly from our reflective check-ins, growing significantly in confidence as the week progressed.

Developing Leadership and Creativity

The visit from Big Leaf Young Leaders marked the start of their inspiring leadership program. Over three packed days, they cooked amazing meals, engaged in hard work, and shared laughter during a Tuesday karaoke night. This dynamic group demonstrated the creativity and compassion essential for strong leadership, and we wish them success in the next steps of their journey.

Pushing Boundaries and Building Bonds

We were thrilled to welcome Heathside, whose young people impressed us by pushing themselves out of their comfort zones. They connected beautifully with Zara, our new horse, during their sessions, and particularly enjoyed assisting with beekeeping and feeding animals in the mornings.

Exciting Developments on the Farm

November has been a month of growth for the farm itself. We’re delighted to introduce Zara, our newest horse, who is already a firm favourite with visiting groups. Thanks to Ahmed’s hard work, our beekeeping efforts have expanded, doubling the number of hives on the farm. On the livestock side, the rams are in for tupping, and we’re eagerly counting down to lambing season, which begins in late March.

Transformative Experiences

The stories we hear from visiting staff continue to highlight the impact of a week at Jamie’s Farm. One staff member shared this about a student:

“D thrived at the farm. She blossomed into a chatty and sociable young lady, opening up to peers and staff. She gained confidence in herself and realized how amazing it is to be her true self. Her thoughtful reflections and encouragement towards others were truly inspiring.”

Thank you to all our supporters, partners, and visiting groups for making these experiences possible. We hope you all have a lovely winter break and a happy new year!
