We have had a great few weeks with Dallam School joining us on Mondays, Co-op Grange working hard on Tuesdays, new partner school Settle College throwing themselves into Wednesdays, and Eastwood Community School putting the icing on the cake (sometimes literally!) of our week on Thursdays. We are incredibly lucky to work with these amazing groups of diverse, hard working, interesting young people and staff!
Our newly erected polytunnel is now teeming with salad leaves, tomatoes, squash, chilli, corn and much more (a big thank you to Catherine and Emily Hill for donating some of these amazing plants!). Our orchard is thriving, and will be attracting all sorts of bees and butterflies after our visiting young people planted 100 wildflower seedlings around the trees amongst the meadow grasses.
Mark, our Farm Manager, is extremely happy and relieved to have cut and baled all the silage whilst the sun has been shining, a huge job ticked off the list which all our livestock will appreciate when they are tucking into it over winter.Â
We had a fantastic visit from the Clitheroe Lady Farmers group, who were treated to a great talk on Jamie’s Farm Skipton by Mark, and then taken on a farm tour in the sunshine. We want to thank the group for choosing us as their charity of the year, and for raising and donating a fantastic amount during our recent Champions for Children fundraiser.
We have also been lucky enough to have a visit from the BBC, who spoke to some of our visiting young people and also interviewed Mark and Ben about the work we do here at Skipton.
It’s not often we get to celebrate the arrival of a baby that isn’t a sheep or cow on the farm, so we want to say a massive congratulations to Emily and Mark for the birth of their son Harvey, the first of their children to be born up north! We are always in awe of the work that both Emily and Mark do on the farm, alongside raising their beautiful family and leading the #JFSkipton team – we would be lost without you!
Our wonderful volunteer Xander has been back on the farm, helping out with tonnes of farm work, we are incredibly grateful for all the work our volunteers do, they bring great energy, support, and inspiration to our farm.
