Winter update from Jamie’s Farm Waterloo

This term has been full of activity as we welcomed back some familiar faces and met new partners on the farm. Oasis Academy South Bank returned with their Year 8 students for weekly enrichment sessions, bringing energy and curiosity to their learning. Haringey Learning Partnership joined us for their Respite intervention, and we also kicked off a fantastic partnership with Skinners Academy, whose adventurous Year 7 students have added a fresh burst of enthusiasm to the farm.

Clay Modelling Sparks Creativity

As the days grew colder, our school groups found warmth and joy in clay modelling sessions. With limited opportunities for creative crafts in schools, it was heartening to see students embrace this calming, hands-on activity. While many began with leaf bowls, their creations soon turned into unique expressions—volcanoes, candle holders, sports heroes, and favourite pets. One young person shared, “Nobody ever tells me I can do what I want, but you let me with the clay.” These moments of creativity and mindfulness were a highlight for all.

Reflections and Follow-Ups

We were thrilled to host a follow-up session for Northolt High School students, who previously attended a residential at Jamie’s Farm Bath. Their reflections were both profound and inspiring—ranging from forming new friendships to confidently navigating school life without sanctions. Despite the cold weather, they didn’t hesitate to roll up their sleeves, clean out goat pens, move compost, and cook a delicious veggie chilli lunch to share.

Archbishop Tenison High School, after completing a six-week programme in October, shared incredible feedback about their students’ growth. From expanding trusted networks to managing anxiety and navigating conflicts more effectively, their progress showcased the transformative impact of time on the farm.

A Magical Christmas Fayre

Finally, we ended the month on a festive note with our biggest community event of the year—our Christmas Fayre. From a bustling market to Santa’s grotto, hearty food, and children’s activities, it was a heart-warming day filled with community spirit. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it so special.

We look forward to more festive fun as we approach the winter holidays and a new year!
