Jo says that arriving at the Waterloo farm in the morning is the most amazing start to her working day. The animals cluck, bleet and chirp their welcome as the trains roar overhead and Big Ben chimes across the Thames. A true oasis in the heart of the city and the perfect spot to leave worries behind.
Checking in with volunteers, planning the all- important group meal, sorting out which animal and gardening jobs need to be done are daily priorities but for Jo the real satisfaction lies in welcoming young people from all over London and making sure that each visit is purposeful, challenging, creative and fun. That’s what she appreciates in her own working life and aims to bring to our young farmers. No two visits are the same and Jo relishes the variety, flexibility, and ‘thinking on your feet’ that meeting the needs of our young visitors demands.
