March update from Jamie’s Farm Bath

Springtime is always a highlight on the farm and it always feels like such a privilege to be able to share this with children and young people. This month, we have been lucky enough to welcome a mixture of new partner schools and returning schools. We have loved working with the young people of Holland Park School, Co-op Academy Oakwood, Esher High School, Salesian School and this week, West London Zone: Phoenix Academy.

We’ve had some fantastic chefs bringing their own ideas on what to cook (including a tasty risotto), seen lots of young people giving nurture to our chicks, witnessed the joy that snow brings even when helping move 350 ewes for lambing, and captured the incredible experience of young people delivering lambs.

The farm has been such a hive of activity with our second lambing still in full swing. This involves a relentless schedule of delivering lambs, caring for ‘mum and baby’ and moving them out onto the field when they are ready. We also have acquired two new Jersey cows who are in calf and who have been compared to Bambi with their beautiful colours and long eyelashes!

Thank you to some of our amazing volunteers – Rachael, Louie, Ellie and Ella – who have been so enthusiastic and generous with their time this month. It is always lovely when the young people recognise the value of this with many shout-outs having been for our incredible volunteers. With springtime upon us, Laura and her bees have once again made an appearance, providing our young people with a really unique experience so a big thank you as always goes to her for all her hard work and enthusiasm.Â
