June update from Jamie’s Farm Hereford

This June we’ve had a great range of varied groups at Jamie’s Farm Hereford, with visits from Bertha, London Academy, one of our longest standing partners schools, and Thomas Knyvett College, a new partner.

Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat school organised a lovely follow-up visit after their week on the farm. Rob spent time baking with the group, followed by a celebration with the young people’s parents. This celebration included a video screening of their time at the farm, certificates for their achievements and reflections on how they hope to keep up the great work. We’re delighted that the school has booked another two residential visits with us, which is a testament to their committment to the young people they work with.

” Arrived safe and well, and although our last shout-out was yesterday, I am taking this opportunity to say a huge shout-out to all the team at Jamie’s Hereford for welcoming us to your home, treating us well, and for an amazing week. Expectations exceeded… I am looking forward to seeing how the experience has positively improved all our young people’s lives ”

Visiting Teacher

Similarly to all of the Jamie’s Farms, we are intending to start making hay, but the incoming rain has dampened these plans quite literally – although the rain is also most welcome after a very dry month of June.

With our open day coming up, we have had great fun creating a nature trail which runs along our wildlife ponds and to our herbal leys, so that visitors can see and learn about the ways in which we’re caring for nature in our surrounding area.

We have reached a new milestone in that we are soon to send out our free-range chicken from Hereford to all of the other farms, and we’re all excited to finally be able to share in our very own Jamie’s Farm chicken.

The applications for the role of Food Specialist have now drawn to a close, and we very much look forward to welcoming a new member to the Hereford team very soon.

We also wanted to give a special celebration this month to one of our team, Ella. As any of you who have visited Lower Wernddu in the last couple of years will know, Ella is at the core of our JF Hereford family. With a maturity and strength that belies her young age, Ella always puts herself forward to helping in the most challenging of situations. She is utterly focused on the needs of our visiting young people, and finds a natural rapport with them remarkably early on in every visit. This ability to make everyone feel comfortable and secure to be themselves is a huge asset to our team, and makes us feel enormously grateful to having her as our Therapy Coordinator.

We’d love to see you at our open day taking place on Saturday 15th July. This is a great weekend opportunity to come and meet our team, the animals and some of the young people we work with while also exploring the beautiful environment we’ve created to deliver our programme. Please register your interest here so that we can ensure we know how many people to expect.
