February update from Jamie’s Farm Skipton

Growing Together Through Wind and rain!

Despite the brisk Yorkshire winds, February has been a month of incredible activity and connection at Jamie’s Farm Skipton. We’ve welcomed fantastic groups, made strides in our environmental projects, and strengthened our community bonds.

Welcoming Enthusiastic Groups and Building Skills

We’ve had the pleasure of hosting energetic groups from Co-op Academies Woodlands, Grange, Nightingale, and Smithies Moor. Each group brought their unique spirit to the farm, helping us plant trees in our developing Wetland, build bird nesting boxes, create delicious meals in our cozy kitchen, and explore the stunning Yorkshire Dales on our invigorating hikes.

Connecting with Schools and Families

Ben enjoyed a rewarding month visiting Laycock Primary School, Meadow Bank Community School, and Clayton Village Primary School. A highlight was the Clayton Village visit, where parents and grandparents joined in, sharing the joy and experiences of their children’s time at the farm. It was wonderful to bridge the gap between farm life and home life.

Developing the Farm and Embracing Sustainability

Our new barn continues to progress, and our Wetland area has seen significant growth thanks to a monumental tree planting effort. Young people and dedicated volunteers from the Ribble Rivers Trust worked tirelessly to plant a vast array of trees, both large and small. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed their time and passion to this vital project.

Strengthening Our Community and Team

We held our first volunteer training day, welcoming our dedicated volunteers and the wonderful Elly from our Ops team. We were also delighted to have a remote session with our co-founder, Tish, followed by a hands-on log chopping session. Ben also spent a weekend at Jamie’s Farm Lewes, working with our inspiring Youth Champions. You can learn more about their incredible work here.

Clare, Ben, and Elly had a fantastic visit to Accrington Academy, witnessing the transformative work of Mr. Taylor, who has been inspired by Jamie’s Farm Monmouth. We even helped to revitalise their garden and allotment area, building compost bins and preparing raised beds. A huge thank you to Mr. Taylor and his team for their warm welcome and delicious breakfast butties!

Thank you for your continued support, which allows us to provide these enriching experiences for young people. We look forward to sharing more updates soon.
