February update from Jamie’s Farm Bath

“Hard Work Pays Off!”

As spring gently nudges winter aside, Jamie’s Farm Bath is buzzing with activity and growth. We’ve been busy connecting with our young people, welcoming new life to the farm, and building resilience in more ways than one.

Connecting with Our Young People

This month, we’ve focused on nurturing individual connections. Alice kicked things off with a fantastic visit to Harris Academy St John’s Wood, celebrating the students’ achievements. We’ve also been delighted to hold one-to-one catch-ups in schools, hearing firsthand about the progress of students from Swakeleys School, many of whom are now thriving! Octavia and Alice enjoyed a heartwarming reunion with students from Drayton Manor High School, and Rachel’s early morning check-in at Chiswick School set the week off to a positive start. These moments of connection are at the heart of what we do, reinforcing the impact of their time on the farm.

Spring Arrivals and Farm Adventures

The farm is bursting with new life! We’ve successfully completed our first lambing, and it’s a joy to watch the lambs frolicking in the fields after their cozy stay in the shed. We’re now eagerly anticipating the arrival of our first calf of the year. Our young farmers have been hard at work with winter jobs like hedge laying and garden mulching, and we’re preparing for the March lambing ewes to move into the sheds. And, undeterred by the recent storm, we’ve already made great progress rebuilding our polytunnel—a testament to the resilience and hard work we foster here.

Community and Collaboration

We’re incredibly grateful for the support of our dedicated volunteers. Marc Richard, our residential volunteer, made a huge impact during the AllChild Marylebone visit, diving into all aspects of farm life. Gemma Smail, a regular Saturday volunteer, brought her inspiring positivity and bushcraft skills to the Youth Adventure Trust group, braving any weather with a smile. It’s the dedication of volunteers like Marc and Gemma that makes our work possible.

We were so touched to hear one young person from Holland Park School say that they learned this week that “hard work pays off!” This simple yet powerful statement encapsulates the transformative experience Jamie’s Farm offers. We can’t wait to see how she applies this lesson back at school.

Thank you for your continued support, which allows us to provide these life-changing experiences. We look forward to sharing more updates with you next month!
