Luke manages Oasis Farm Waterloo, which means he gets to do a bit of everything. This variety is one of his favourite parts of the job, as he gets to use different parts of personality – working with people, from visiting young people to farm volunteers; being physical out of the farm, moving hay bales and shifting compost; and getting to organise and plan things to keep the farm running.
Working at the farm has taught him that the best way to learn new things is to just give them a go, and where possible learn from others with more experience. After years of being scared of doing DIY, he can finally make things out of wood after experimenting at the farm – which is really rewarding.
One of Luke’s greatest pleasures is growing things and then getting to eat them! He loves the satisfaction that getting your hands in soil, planting seeds and watching them grow brings, and the opportunity for quiet – and then of course the best bit, pulling them up and cooking with them
