Jack’s story
After a devastating bereavement at 10, Jack entered the care system. His life had been turned upside down. By the time he was offered a respite visit to Jamie’s Farm at 13, he was resistant, lacked self belief, and almost refused to come. Fortunately, Jack did show up for that first visit, and through the combination of purposeful jobs on a real working farm, developing deep connections with those around him, and having the space to reflect on what he was going through, Jack was able to open up, rediscover a sense of fun and be a child again.
After that first visit, Jack returned during the summer every year through the fostering service and went on to complete an apprenticeship at Jamie’s Farm. Now 23, Jack’s outlook is positive. From being a child at risk, he has become a young man looking to the future. He is now prepared and inspired to contribute back to society; a far from certain outcome when he came to the farm 10 years ago.
Our vision
For all young people, nationwide, to be better equipped to succeed in life. We specifically reach those aged 11-16 who aren’t thriving in school or home.
What we do
We offer a unique, preventative solution to empower young people to change course. Our farm-based residential and rigorous follow-up programme, are designed specifically to improve wellbeing, boost engagement, reduce exclusions and develop essential life-skills.
